HomeSick and Silkersoft each bring their unique sounds from Canada and Germany respectively, to this inter-continental hook-up, and serve us up a slab of sci-fi tinged bangers that meld the sounds of Footwork, Jungle and Halftime.

HomeSick is major player in Calgary’s flourishing underground music scene, known for his appearances at Red Bull Music Academy 2015 and Sonar Music Festival in Spain. He is also the driving force behind the Footwork Jungle blog and mix series and curator of events with the same namesake and has had his music released on the always stellar labels, Seclusiasis and Modern Ruin. Silkersoft, is a renowned producer and sound designer hailing from Cologne, Germany. He has appeared on Boiler Room, and also attended Red Bull Music Academy in 2015, where he met HomeSick. Known for his work producing beats for German rap favorite, Casper, and doing sound design for “Accounting VR”. His productions have been lauded by publications such as Thump and XLR8R and he has released music on Activia Benz and Apothecary Compositions.

This EP presents three original collaborations betwixt the two lads, starting off with “Dataism”. We’re beckoned down the weird, analogue rabbit-hole by a simple high hat that leads into a building percussive pattern, all while an eerie chord layers and builds. This eventually drops into a satisfying club-pleasing rhythm, intense bass and a shocking stab.
“PrivateCor” brings things into soothing territory with it’s lush intro chords. The serenity however is actually hidden inside of the cleverly executed jungle break manipulation, enhanced by the subtle application of swing on strategic drum sounds. The drop can catch you off guard and will likely have you making funny faces. This of course is a good thing and part of the track’s genius...It’s ability to manipulate faces.
“CryptoKey” is a slice of soothing 130 bpm funk, allowing HomeSick to demonstrate his immense talent playing the keys. Its emotive but still manages to provide a solid framework for dancefloor work, utilizing a driving “bmore” kick pattern over top of subtle breakbeats. A throw-back themed vocal texture and layers of chords build luscious melodies, until the song’s satisfying crescendo, which brings it all home - To outer space.
