Konka is a Vancouver-based producer and drummer who represents the flourishing and fertile underground bass music scene in British Columbia. He’s been on our radar for a couple years as we’ve watched him grow into his sound and find his voice as a producer. His influences of Hip Hop and Metal shine through his music as his skill as a drummer can be heard throughout.

Carrying forward his musical influences from his years as a drummer and performer in a blues metal band, Konka made a natural progression into electronic music with the discovery of Drum & Bass and Dubstep genres. This EP is 2 cuts of raw Halftime nastiness. You can clearly hear Kevin’s attention to detail through his obsession with sound design and bass programming combined with his skill as a drummer.

“Witch Kiss” is the EP’s title track starts us off with a simple beat and bed of brass to set the mood, evoking memories of 90s hip hop. The drop reminds us that we’ve been kissed by a witch and proceeds to unleash a monster 808 sub, mangled bass sounds and a detuned synth hook, over top of a clean hip hop beat that progresses with dramatic cymbal layers.

Ashlee, aka Vancouver’s So Sus, brings his unique take on the original “Witch Kiss”, smoothing the vibes out with a hypnotic bass melody in the intro that lends a cinematic appeal, which leads into a sexy and slinky beat. He flips the
original bass sounds, expertly manipulating their modulation and layers them over a winding, pitch-bent sub bass . At 160 bpm, this remix sounds like it could fit into any style of DJ set and be at home.

“Bishop” wraps up the EP in fine fashion. From the first beat, you can tell its going to be a rough ride as the tense synth and atmosphere builds rapidly. Twisted bass synths command your ear’s attention and are punctuated by snappy drums with an interesting groove. This is a tearout Halftime tune with a personality setting itself apart from it’s peers with its uniqueness.
